Description
ShipCheck — Check a Package Before You Ship It
ShipCheck checks a folder or ZIP archive before you hand a software package to someone else.
Three checks. One pre-delivery report.
- Required files: Verifies that files listed in
shipcheck.jsonare present. Without a configuration file, it checks forREADME.md. - Stray local configuration: Flags files such as
.env,signing.key,id_rsa,credentials.json,secrets.json,.pemfiles, and.local.env. Files ending in.exampleare left alone. - Smoke tests: If a
testsdirectory exists, runspython -m unittest discover. A test failure blocks the package. If no tests directory exists, ShipCheck reports that fact as a note—not a passing test result.
Quick start
Unpack the ZIP and run:
python shipcheck.py .
Passing these checks does not certify the product as secure, complete, or defect-free. ShipCheck reports the results of its defined checks; it does not replace a full release review.

FAQ
- Does a pass mean the product is certified?
- No. It means the named files are present, the stray-config names were absent, and the smoke test passed when a tests directory was there.
- What does it treat as stray local configuration?
- Names such as .env, signing.key, id_rsa, credentials.json, secrets.json, a .pem, or a .local.env file. A .example file is left alone.
