Description
Webula is a developer tool for exploring unfamiliar codebases through an interactive 3D graph. Mount a local project folder and Webula maps its structure, scans its dependencies, and lets you inspect what's inside the files — all in the browser, all client-side. Your code never leaves your machine.
WHAT IT DOES
- 3D force-directed codebase graph (React + Three.js): files and folders as nodes, imports and dependencies as links, with tunable physics (charge, glow, link opacity, orbit, starfield backdrop)
- Dependency analysis for JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, and Julia: internal, external, and unresolved imports, plus reverse dependencies; reads package.json and TOML manifests
- File intelligence: per-file parsed structure (language, line counts, symbols and headings) and a workspace summary (detected stack, manifests, entry points, scripts, docs)
- Explorer tree + Inspector panels, search, node filters, focus modes
- Built-in preview and code editor for common file types (txt, md, json, css, js/ts/tsx/jsx, html, py, go, rs, java, yaml), with save/revert
- Optional local AI via Ollama: per-file code review and a coding chat about the selected file (requires Ollama running on your machine; the app explains the CORS origin setting it needs)
- Electron desktop wrapper with Windows installer configuration (electron-builder, NSIS) — build the installer with one npm script
VERIFIED, NOT PROMISED
- Clean install and production build from a fresh checkout, verified October 2026
- The screenshots are from a live run against a real 428-file codebase
- Runs entirely client-side; folder mounting uses the File System Access API (Chromium-based browser or the Electron wrapper)
REQUIREMENTS
- Node.js + npm to build/run from source
- Chromium-based browser for folder mounting in the web version
- Optional: Ollama for the AI review/chat features
KNOWN LIMITS (stated up front)
- Best with projects under ~400 files and files under 512 KB each (documented in-app limits)
- The Windows installer is a build script, not a pre-built binary — you run it
- Julia files are graphed, dependency-scanned, and structure-parsed, but the in-app preview/editor does not open .jl files yet
- AI features need your own local Ollama; nothing AI-related is hosted
WHAT YOU GET
- Full source code: React + TypeScript + Vite app with Electron wrapper, dependency scanner, file-intelligence module, and Ollama integration
- README with quick start (hosted demo, local dev, standalone, and desktop modes)
- Live demo of the web version is linked on the listing
