Envato's pricing help splits a sale into a list price, a buyer fee, an item price, and an author fee. The author sets the item price. The list price shown to the buyer is the item price plus the buyer fee. The author fee is 50% of the item price. The author receives the rest of the item price, before taxes. Withholding tax can reduce that further. Envato's author terms say earnings are paid once unpaid earnings reach $50.

A worked example, using only those published rules and the PHP Scripts regular-license buyer fee of $5 from the fee table. If the author sets the item price at $20, the list price is $25, the author fee is $10, and the author receives $10 of the item price before taxes. A different category has a different buyer fee. This is an illustration of the formula, not a typical sale.

On Zero to Hundred the Buyer pays the price on the listing. There is no separate buyer fee in that price. Commission is deducted from the Builder's payout: 8% plus $0.50 on a direct sale, 25% on a discovery sale. The first valid signed share-link click counts for 30 days. The Terms of Use say processing fees and currency-conversion costs may be passed through. The published commission is not a quote for those processor costs.

What license does the buyer get?

CodeCanyon's regular license grants an ongoing, non-exclusive, worldwide license to use the item to create one end product for the buyer or one client. It does not allow redistributing the item as stock, in a tool or template, or with source files. Selling that end product to the public is described as needing the extended license. Some items use the Tools License instead, which is for one copy of a tool or app and does not allow modifying it. The license on the item page is the one that applies.

A Buyer on Zero to Hundred receives a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual license to use, modify, and deploy the software, including in their own commercial products. The Buyer may not resell, re-list, sub-license, or redistribute the software as a product. The purchase does not include a business, customers, or revenue.

CodeCanyon is part of Envato Market. Its getting-started page says you can buy and sell scripts and components for languages and frameworks including JavaScript, PHP, ASP.NET, and Java. The price includes a buyer fee.

What does an Envato author earn on CodeCanyon?

Envato's author help says authors pay a 50% author fee on the item price, and receive the rest of the item price before taxes. The buyer fee is separate. It is added to the item price to make the list price, and it is not part of the item price the author fee is calculated on. Envato's author hub says this 50% author fee has applied to all authors since 1 July 2026.

What does the CodeCanyon buyer pay on top of the item price?

Envato publishes a fixed buyer fee by category. On the CodeCanyon table checked on 27 October 2026, a regular license buyer fee runs from $1 to $5. Where an extended license is offered, that buyer fee runs from $5 to $25. The Apps category lists no extended-license fee.

Can the same item be sold more than once?

On both. Envato's author hub says that from 1 July 2026 authors can sell the same content on Envato and on other channels. On Zero to Hundred the license is non-exclusive, so one sale does not take the listing down.
